Blair Converts To Catholicism: UPDATED

Former prime minister Tony Blair has converted to Roman Catholicism after years of speculation over his faith.

Mr Blair was received into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church by Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor during Mass in the chapel at Archbishop's House in Westminster on Friday night.

The Cardinal said: "I am very glad to welcome Tony Blair into the Catholic Church.

"For a long time he has been a regular worshiper at Mass with his family, and in recent months he has been following a programme of formation to prepare for his reception into full communion.

"My prayers are with him, his wife and family at this joyful moment in their journey of faith together."

Mr Blair's wife Cherie was already a practising Roman Catholic.

The move comes after years of speculation that Mr Blair, whose four children are also Catholic, would convert from Anglicanism after he resigned from Number 10 in June.

We know he has been flirting with Roman Catholicism now for many years," said Sky political correspondent Peter Spencer.

"My own suspicion is that Tony Blair would have liked to have done this years ago, but felt he couldn't because he was prime minister."

The move followed speculation that Mr Blair would convert from Anglicanism after he resigned from office in June.

One of his last acts as prime minister was to visit Pope Benedict XVI - his third trip to the Vatican in four years.

This is probably one of the most irresponsibly acts of selfish stupidity he has ever done.

By CONVERTING in such a public way, for such a public figure, he has made a mockery of his policies. By publicly announcing your religion you IMMEDIATELY, whether you mean to or not, apply a bias to everything you say or do. Even if you are not intentionally apply a bias to these things, the fact you've announced what you believe in means people will always put that spin on it.

For example:

  • Lets Hold Terrorist for 100000000 Days
    • Why? Because they're Muslims? Jews? Hindus?
While most RATIONAL people won't believe this, the irrational extremist will see this as a provocation.

In summary, Religion and Politics should be as far separated as possible. The two should never meet in any shape or form. Otherwise, you get examples of people calling teddy bears "Mohammed" and religion steps in a makes everyone look like a completely intolerant prick.
